Russian Snowballs (walnut cookies)



I just realized one of our treasured family recipes is not on my blog.  These are amazing. They melt in your mouth.Also a great recipe for when you are out of eggs.

Russian Snowballs
1/2 lb butter
2 c flour
2 c chopped walnuts (you can sub in pecans or almonds, so good)
5 T sugar
2 t vanilla extract (if using almonds, use almond extract)
1 T water
1/2 t salt

10x sugar

Mix butter, sugar, vanilla and water. 
Sift Flour and salt (family recipe says so, I say whisk it and forgo the sifter)
Blend with other ingredients, roll into balls or crescents.
Bake at 325° for 20 mins.
Roll in 10 sugar twice (confectioners sugar)
